Bastian Kraft was born in 1980 in Göppingen. He staged his first productions during his degree in Applied Theatre Studies in Gießen, which he completed in 2007 with his diploma production of Marguerite Duras’ The Malady of Death. This was followed by three seasons as assistant director at the Burgtheater in Vienna, where he directed the evening schöner lugen. Hochstapler bekennen in 2008, and Oscar Wilde’s Dorian Gray in 2010. In 2010 he won the Audience Choice Award of the Münchner Volkstheater’s festival “radikaljung” with his production of Franz Kafka’s Amerika at Hamburg’s Thalia Theater. He went on to direct productions at the Schauspielhaus in Vienna (Freud und die Folgen, 2009 / Kreisky – wer sonst?, 2010 / Peter Licht’s The Miser 2012), at the Schauspielhaus Graz (Werther, based on Goethe, 2010), at the Münchner Volkstheater (Thomas Mann’s Felix Krull, 2010) and the Schauspielhaus Frankfurt (Schnitzler’s Dream Story, 2011). In 2010 he directed the premiere of Helene Hegemann’s Axolotl Roadkill and Virginia Woolf’s Orlando at the Thalia Theater in Hamburg.
