Christoph Franken was born in Cologne in 1978. From 2001-2005 he studied acting at the Otto Falckenberg School in Munich and in 2005 he attended the Baden-Württemburg Film Academy in Ludwigsburg. Before and during his studies, Franken performed at Munich’s Kammerspiele, and at the city’s Volkstheater, as well as the Teatro Sesc Rio de Janeiro and the Stuttgart State Theatre. From 2005 to 2009 Christoph Franken was a member of the Schauspiel Hannover ensemble. There he worked with directors such as Sebastian
Baumgarten, Nuran David Calis, Tilmann Köhler, Wilfried Minks and Christoph Frick, and performed in Jurgen Gosch’s productions of Chekhov’s Three Sisters and Shakespeare’s As You Like It. Franken also appeared in Sebastian Nübling’s world premiere production of Pornography by Simon Stephens at Hamburg’s Deutsches Schauspielhaus. In the 2009/2010 season Christoph Franken joined the ensemble of the Deutsches Theater. In Berlin he performs in Jurgen Gosch’s staging of The Seagull by Chekhov and Michael Thalheimer’s production of The Weavers by Gerhart Hauptmann. Franken also plays the Drum Major in Jorinde Dröse’s staging of Woyzeck.
