Clash
by Nurkan Erpulat and Dorle Trachternach
When did it all start? With Adam and Eve and the fall from grace? When the Ottoman Turks laid siege to Vienna? Who’s to blame? The media? Our parents? Or is it our own unbridled passion – our arrogance, greed, lust, rage, excesses, envy and the weariness of our hearts? Never mind! It doesn’t really matter when nothing goes your way and there’s no sign of change in sight… Frustrated by society’s status quo, a group of young people set out to see if there’s something different, something better "out there".
Together with director Nurkan Erpulat, 17 young people from Berlin – Muslims, Christians and agnostics – collectively explore whether “universal” values remain current and relevant in our increasingly multicultural and religiously diverse society. While doing so they play around with ethnic clichés, subcultural linguistic codes and religious symbols.
