Born in Denmark in 1967. He studied acting at the National Theatre School (Statens Teaterskole) in Copenhagen from 1992 to 1996 and made his debut as an actor in 1996 at the Skægspiren Children's Theatre (Børneteatret Skægspiren) in Odense. From 2001 to 2004 Claes Bang was a permanent member of the Aalborg Theatre in Aalborg. Further engagements have taken him to the Det Danske Theatre, the Husets Theatre in Copenhagen and the Århus Theatre in Aarhus. He has also appeared in numerous Danish feature films, television films and television series. Since 2010 he has also appeared in German-language roles in German film and television productions. In 2017 Claes Bang starred in Ruben Östlund's satirical film drama The Square, which won the Golden Palm at the 70th Cannes Film Festival. Bang himself received the European Actor award at the 30th European Film Awards 2017. In 2018, Claes Bang was in various film productions, including The Burnt Orange Heresy (directed by Giuseppe Capotondi), Lyrebird (directed by Dan Friedkin), The Bay of Silence (directed by Paula van der Oest), The Glass Room (directed by Julius Sevcík) or The Girl in the Spider's Web (directed by Fede Alvarez). In 2019 he played the lead role in the Netflix production Dracula, which was first broadcast in January 2020. In the 2019/20 season he can be seen at the Deutsches Theater Berlin in the English language guest performance The Evil by Jan Guillou (directed by Julie Pauline Wieth) in January 2020.
