Susanne Jansen was born in West Berlin in 1963. In 1992 she made her debut at the Maxim Gorki Theater Berlin. From 1994 to 1999 she was in the founding ensemble at the Theaterhaus Jena and played a decisive role in shaping the theater's innovative and experimental style. Jansen worked there with Albrecht Hirche, Jo Fabian and Sebastian Hartmann, among others, and appeared in numerous award-winning productions. This was followed by engagements at Kampnagel Hamburg, Neumarkt Theater Zurich, Hebbeltheater Berlin and Volksbühne am Rosa Luxemburg-Platz. From 2001 to 2009 Susanne Jansen was a member of the ensemble at the Schauspielhaus Hannover. There she worked with Peter Kastenmüller, Christoph Schlingensief, Fred Kelemen, Franz Wittenbrink and Nicolas Stemann, among others. With Hotel Paraiso directed by Barbara Bürk she was at the Berlin Theatertreffen in 2005. This was followed by work with Schorsch Kamerun, Lars-Ole Walburgs and Sebastian Baumgarten. She also thrilled Jansen in Hanover with her solo evening Lazy Hazel sings the Blues as a singer.
Since 2009, Jansen has made guest appearances at the Staatsschauspiel Dresden, Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxenburg-Platz, Thalia Theater, St. Pauli Theater and Ernst-Deutsch Theater. There, in 2014, the production Was ihr wollt by Shakespeare, directed by Mona Kraushaar, received the Rolf Mares Prize. This was followed by work at the Theater Konstanz with Marius von Mayenburg. In 2016, Jansen's play Die Wohlpräparierte Frau oder the ultimate imitation of life premiered at Theater unterm Dach directed by Stephan Thiel and was nominated for the Friedrich Luft Prize 2017. Further works followed at Theater unterm Dach Berlin, such as Rosa-Trotzalledem directed by Anja Panse. The production was invited on a festival tour of Brazil in 2019. In 2018, she played the widow Begbick in the production Autowerkstatt Mann ist Mann at the Berliner Ensemble, directed by Olaf Nicolai and Sabrina Zwach.
An excellent singer and actress, in 2019 she played the leading role of Florence Foster Jenkins in Glorious by Peter Quilter at the Frankenfestspiele Röttingen, directed by Dietmar Horcizka. Susanne Jansen is involved in several musical productions and participates in numerous radio play productions. The radio play Ein Menschenbild, das in seiner Summe Null ergibt by Schorsch Kamerun received the Hörspielpreis der Kriegsblinden. Together with Rosa Enskat, Jansen developed two theater-performance-concert evenings in the Sophiensälen Berlin. As the duo Enskat & Jansen they gave celebrated concerts at the Bar Jeder Vernunft Berlin.
Currently she is on stage again with her own theater text at Theater unterm Dach: Kaputte Automaten directed by Stephan Thiel.
