Sebastian Hartmann
Sebastian Hartmann was born in 1968 in Leipzig; he went on to study acting for stage and screen at the Hans Otto Drama School. From 1991 to 1993, he was a member of the ensemble at the Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar and in 1993/1994 at the Carrousel Theater in Berlin. From the mid-1990s on, he staged his first productions in the independent theatre scene; in 1998 he founded the ''wehrtheater hartmann''. In 1999, he staged productions at the Theaterhaus Jena and at the Theater unterm Dach in Berlin. In the same year, he directed Ibsen’s Ghosts, his first production at the Volksbühne Berlin. He has staged productions as a freelance director at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg, Theater Basel, Schauspiel Köln, Theater Magdeburg, Schauspiel Frankfurt, NO Theater Tallinn and the National Theatre in Oslo. From 2008 to 2013 he worked as artistic director at the Centraltheater Leipzig. His latest work at the Deutsches Theater includes productions such as Berlin Alexanderplatz and Ghosts.
