Svealena Kutschke was born in Lübeck and studied cultural sciences in Hildesheim. She has published three novels, most recently Stadt aus Rauch (Eichborn, 2017). She has received various awards and scholarships for her literary work, including the Open Mike of the Literaturwerkstatt Berlin, the Berlin Senate Scholarship and residence scholarships in China, Poland and Croatia. The Dutch translation for Stadt aus Rauch was on the longlist for the European Literature Prize 2019. zu unseren füßen, das gold, aus dem boden verschwunden is her first play.
Svealena Kutschke was awarded the Schiller Memorial Prize in 2019.
