Timofej Kuljabin
Timofey Kulyabin graduated from the Russian Academy of Theatre Arts (Oleg Kudryashov’s workshop) in 2007. Since 2007, he has been working as director in the "Krasnyi Fackel" ("Red Torch") Theatre Novosibirsk. His productions include The Queen of Spades after Pushkin, High Wire Act by Antonov, Macbeth by Shakespeare, Masquerade by Lermontov, Hedda Gabler by Ibsen, Onegin after Pushkin, KILL after Schiller. Macbeth (2008) and KILL (2013) were nominated for the Golden Mask (National Theatre Award). Onegin received two Golden Masks in 2014: the Special Prize of the Jury, and the award for "Work of Lighting Designer" (Denis Solntsev). Kulyabin collaborated with theatres in Riga, Yaroslavl, St. Petersburg, and Moscow. In 2009, Kulyabin made his debut as opera director staging Borodin’s Prince Igor in The Novosibirsk Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre, where in 2014 he also staged Tannhäuser by R. Wagner. Since January 2015, he has been artistic director of the "Krasnyi Fackel" ("Red Torch") Theatre Novosibirsk. Kulyabin was a participant and laureate of many Russian and international festivals (Real Theatre, The European Festival of Young Theatrical Directors PREMIÈRES in Strasbourg, Novo-Siberian Transit, Rainbow, Academy, Territory, Meetings in Odessa, The International Volkov and Pushkin festivals, etc.). The Association of Theatrical Critics named Timofey Kulyabin’s The Three Sisters "The Production of the Year" in 2015. In the 2019/20 his production of Miss Julie by August Strindberg should have had its premiere in the Kammerspiele of the Deutsches Theater but had to be postponed due to the corona-crisis and finally premiered in August 2021.
