Jo Schramm

Jo Schramm, born 1974 in Stuttgart, lives and works in Berlin. He worked five seasons in the lighting department of Schauspiel Stuttgart before studying architecture at the Kunstakademie Stuttgart, as well as scenography and media art at the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Karlsruhe. Ever since, he has been working as a set designer, light and video artist for theatre, dance and opera. A continuous collaboration connects him with Tom Kühnel and Jürgen Kuttner in the field of acting and with David Hermann in the field of opera. Alongside with Tom Kühnel, he has realised numerous productions at the Deutsches Theater in Berlin, the Staatsschauspiel Hannover, the Residenztheater Munich and the Ruhrfestspiele Recklinghausen. Moreover, he worked among other things at the Schauspielhaus and Thalia Theater in Hamburg, at the Berliner Volksbühne, the Münchner Kammerspiele, at the Schauspielhaus and Theater am Neumarkt Zurich, Theater Basel, Staatstheater and Staatsoper Stuttgart, Schauspiel Köln, Malmö Stadttheater, Schauspiel Düsseldorf, at the Bayerische Staatsoper Munich, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Opera Frankfurt, L'Opéra National de Paris, Opéra National de Lorraine, Opéra National du Rhin, Opéra National de Montpellier, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein as well as the opera houses in Nuremberg and Bonn with directors such as Christoph Schlingensief, Schorsch Kamerun, Michael Simon, Johann Kresnik, Christian Weise, Suse Wächter and Anna Bergmann. Several times, his works have been nominated as stage sets of the year in the specialist magazines Theater heute and Opernwelt and he was nominated for the FAUST for Medea at Schauspiel Hannover.
