A shadow image: the silhouette of a man, a Rheinmetall typewriter from 1923 on a desk in Worms. A second shadow: an old, demented man sitting in the visiting room of a German retirement home. A third character: Goethe on his way to the Brenner Pass, a song in the trenches, colonial soldiers from Senegal.
Kevin Rittberger has written a short play, commissioned by the Autoren[theater]tage 2020, in which past and present meet. Current issues arise from the old images that the narrators evoke: What is a life? What is experience and memory, in both social and individual terms?
