Meike Schmitz
Meike Schmitz was born in Kiel in 1981. She studied literature and cultural studies at the University of Siegen until 2005. In 2006 she did an MA in Latin American Studies at the FU Berlin. While studying, she spent time abroad in Spain, Italy and Mexico as well as taking on internships as a dramaturg and assisting at the Schauspielhaus in Hamburg, the Thalia Theatre in Hamburg and at the Carlo Felice Opera in Genoa. In 2008 she did an MA in dramaturgy at the Theaterakademie Hamburg. From the Season 2009/10 to 2013/14, Meike Schmitz was engaged by the Deutsches Theater Berlin, first as an assistant dramaturg, then as a dramaturg. There she worked with directors such as Frank Abt, Tilmann Köhler, Andreas Kriegenburg, Alexander Riemenschneider and Christopher Rüping. Since summer 2014, she has worked as a freelance dramaturg. She is part of the artistic directorship of the Frei_Raum Theater in Bern and continues to be engaged as a guest dramaturg at the Deutsches Theater Berlin.
