Harald Baumgartner was born in Linz. He studied acting at the Morzarteum in Salzburg. His first engagement was at the Schlosstheater Moers. Subsequently he worked as a freelance actor in Berlin and Zurich, before being engaged at the Stadttheater Konstanz from 1987 to 1993 and at Schauspiel Hannover from 1993 to 2000. Harald Baumgartner was a member of the ensemble at the Thalia Theater in Hamburg from 2000 to 2009 and worked with directors Andreas Kriegenburg, Martin Kušej, Leander Haußmann, Stephan Kimmig, Alize Zandwijk, Jorinde Dröse, Michael Talke and David Bösch. Since the 2009/10 season he has been an ensemble member at the Deutsches Theater, where he has worked, among others, with Dimiter Gotscheff, Michael Thalheimer, Tilmann Köhler, Daniela Löffner, Bastian Kraft and Martin Laberenz. Currently he can be seen in At the time of the queen mother, Death of a Salesman and Lenz.
