“Storytelling is a profoundly human and dignified way of giving meaning to difficult situations.” (Simon Stephens) — Love. Family. Progress. God. Freedom. The author chose big words as headings for the scenes of his play – allusions to the big themes mirrored in that series of loosely connected parts. The stories take us through eight decades linked by figures whose fates pass from the real hardships of life to the realm of magic and vice versa. The inventor of a gold processor who, his limbs torn off by an explosion, turns himself into a golden statue; the adoptive father of an African boy who becomes a murderer; the renegade World War II soldier informed on in 1942; the German National People’s Army soldier dreaming his way to the West. Stories of the irresistible desire for gold, money and life, and the big question as to what a person believes in and to whom he would donate his heart.
For years, Armin Petras has been writing plays under the open pseudonym Fritz Kater. Love You, Dragonfly premiered at the Theater Bonn in 2016. In 2018, director Petras staged author Kater himself.
