Guest Performance of the Royal District Theatre, Tiflis | Georgia
Medea s01e06
by Paata Tsikolia
In Georgian with German and English surtitles
You gods, turn all suffering away from me.
I have suffered enough.
I am Medea, a heartless murderer.
I’m not the one who will be defeated.
You won’t see me broken.
Now you know me, you gods!
I am Medea! A Colchian princess.
Medea is not a virgin blinded by passion here. Medea is the heiress to the throne of Colchis in the struggle against her father and brother. She has never left her homeland because her goal is not to marry Jason but to destroy her father's family and the Colchian culture. Paata Tsikolia's new version of Medea s01e06 offers a completely unexpected understanding of the myth with dancers, animation and unleashed acting.
The play was awarded the SABA Literary Prize in the category "Best Drama of the Year".
