Anna Heesen

Anna Heesen, who grew up in Mülheim an der Ruhr, studied dramaturgy at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" in Leipzig. At the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz she was Carl Hegemann's assistant and worked there with Andrij Zholdak and Christoph Schlingensief, among others. In the 2008/09 season she started as a permanent assistant dramaturg at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg and worked there until the 2010/2011 season with directors such as Sylvain Creuzevault, Sebastian Nübling, Martin Kušej, René Pollesch and Samuel Weiss. In 2010/11 she received the Marie-Zimmermann-Scholarship for the promotion of young dramaturgists, combined with a two-month stay at the Akademie Schloss Solitude. As a freelance dramaturg she was also part of Christoph Schlingensief's team (e.g. in the productions Der Zwischenstand der Dinge at the Maxim Gorki Theater Berlin and Via Intolleranza II, co-production Festspielhaus Afrika gGmbH with Kampnagel Hamburg, the Munich State Opera and the Vienna Festival). Since 2007 she has worked continuously with Martin Wuttke (e.g. Gretchen's Faust and Das Abenteuerliche Herz - Droge und Rausch at the Berliner Ensemble and Nach der Oper - Würgengel at the Burgtheater Vienna) and for many years with René Pollesch, among others at the Schauspielhaus Hamburg, at the Burgtheater Vienna and at the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz, where she was permanently engaged and worked alongside Pollesch with David Marton, Martin Wuttke, Markus Öhrn and Krzysztof Garbaczewski. At the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus she worked with Markus Heinzelmann and at the Residenztheater Munich with Tom Kühnel and Jürgen Kuttner. Since the change of directorship at the Volksbühne 2017, she has worked as a freelance dramaturg with Karin Henkel at the Schauspielhaus Zurich (Beute Frauen Krieg), with David Marton at the Opéra National de Lyon (Don Giovanni) with René Pollesch at the Deutsches Theater Berlin and at the Burgtheater Vienna, with Sebastian Nübling at the Maxim Gorki Theater Berlin and at the Schauspielhaus Zurich and with Martin Wuttke at the Berliner Ensemble.
