It is night-time in the king's palace. The Council of Confidants are holding a meeting. They seem a little sleepy, because tonight, like every night, the king cannot rest. He paces in his nightgown while the angry mob rages outside the high windows. Should he go out to speak to the people? And if so, how it is done and what should he wear for the occasion? Miroslava Svolikova, born 1986 in Vienna, was commissioned by the Deutsches Theater to write a short play. Fragments of the State is a fairy tale about the relationship between people and government in times of crisis.
