STAY UNITED #1

On the night of the 24th of February 2022, Russia began its war against Ukraine. Today, one year after the start of the war, we - in cooperation with Hotel Continental - Art Space in Exile, a temporary cultural centre in Treptow - invite you to the six-part series of events called STAY UNITED. DT ensemble members and Ukrainian artists will present three evenings together at both Hotel Continental and Deutsches Theater.

In view of the return of brutal war violence in Europe, we dedicate the first edition of our series to the parable by Ukrainian author Ilya Kaminsky: Deaf Republic - a powerful and poetic masterpiece about the fictional town of Vasenka under enemy occupation, an elegy about love and violence. We dedicate a reading with music to this this compelling plea against silence. DT ensemble members Almut Zilcher and Felix Goeser read the German translation by Anja Kampmann. The Ukrainian singer Iryna Lazer (Mavka) responds with her music by bringing together electro sounds with elements of traditional and contemporary Ukrainian music. Mavka is the name of her band, named after a female figure from Ukrainian mythology who was believed to have lived in forests, lakes or rivers.

This first edition will be held in German language. Information to the following editions (and languages) will follow soon.
