Markwart Müller-Elmau
Markwart Müller-Elmau was born in Munich. He studied acting at the Max-Reinhardt-Schule in Berlin. From 1959 he worked as an actor, director and lead director at theatres including Kassel, Freiburg, Constance and Ulm. This was followed by engagements at the Nationaltheater Mannheim and the Staatstheater Hannover. From 2000 to 2009 he was a member of the ensemble of the Thalia Theater Hamburg. His most important works include local magistrate Adam in Kleist’s The Broken Jug, Prospero in Shakespeare’s Tempest, Lear in King Lear, Aurora in Das Leben auf der Praça Roosevelt (Life on the Praça Roosevelt) by Dea Loher, the wild man in Peter Handke’s Untertagblues (Subday Blues) and Bartleby by Herman Melville. He has acted regularly in productions by Andreas Kriegenburg, as well as by Armin Petras, Stephan Kimmig‚ Alize Zandwijk, Tom Kühnel and Jürgen Kuttner, Frank Abt and Sebastian Hartmann. Since the 2009/10 season he has been an ensemble member at the Deutsches Theater Berlin.
