Kyungsung Lee studied directing at Jungang University and completed his MFA in Performance Practice and Research at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London. In 2007, he founded Creative VaQi and is now the manager and director of the group. The main focus of his work is to stage theatre in everyday spaces, for example in disused buildings and public places. He works in an interdisciplinary manner with representatives from different media, dancers, writers and artists. He has written and directed, among other plays, The Moving Exhibition at the LIG Art Hall, We Transport Your Sofa at Gwanghwamun Square and The Dream of Sancho at the Edinburgh Festival. In 2014, he developed a documentary contribution to the Namsan Art Center on the topic of the venue in theatre practice. In 2009 he was awarded the Dokkabie Prize at the MIME Fesitval, and in 2011 the Donga Prize – New Concepts in Theatre, and the advancement award for artists at the Doosan Art Center. In 2016 he was invited with The Conversations to the Theaterformen Festival in Braunschweig.
