The poetic resources of space – destination of metaphysical longing, place of encounters with alien intelligences, home of mysterious celestial bodies, unexplored physical phenomena and much more – have faded into the background these days. Instead, commercial interests dominate the discourse as well as the sad promise that the solution to our earthly problems can be found up there.

But how can one set out into the infinite, the unexplored, the unknown without already having the bitter ends of all progress warningly before one's eyes, as history teaches us? At the beginning of the new artistic direction, there is a fun expedition into the unknown – in search of alternative realities in the cosmos, other space-time continents and parallel universes that give us ideas about how we might shape the future and where our present comes from.

The crew members of the stage expedition redeem the genre of science fiction from its supposed triviality and celebrate its emancipatory and philosophical potential in an associative collage. With the narrative possibilities beyond linear narration, with the parallelism of different processes on stage and the fact that a production per se represents an alternative reality, Spaceship Theater thus bundles utopian thrusts from history and the present that our time so urgently needs.
