In an apartment house in Berlin: an old drunkard, a lesbian couple, a refugee, a depressed woman and her ex-husband. In this constellation fundamental questions arise. Gentrification, our interaction with strangers – people we don't understand because of culture, origin or even just misunderstandings are boiling to the surface.
Svealena Kutschke was born in Lübeck and studied cultural sciences in Hildesheim. She has published three novels, most recently Stadt aus Rauch (Eichborn, 2017). She has received various awards and scholarships for her literary work, including the Open Mike of the Literaturwerkstatt Berlin, the Berlin Senate Scholarship and residence scholarships in China, Poland and Croatia; zu unseren füßen, das gold, aus dem boden verschwunden is her first play.
