All My Sons (Alle meine Söhne)

by Arthur Miller
Joe Keller has it made. Business is booming, he’s financially well-off and has a picture-perfect family. That his company supplied the air force with faulty parts in wartime, causing pilots to plummet to their deaths, is an issue he believes is now dead and buried. Keller’s business partner at the time went to prison for his role in the affair. Now the only thing marring Keller’s seemingly idyllic life is that his wife Kate still believes their son Larry will return from the war. And then there’s their second son, Chris. Convinced that Larry is dead, Chris wants to marry his brother’s former fiancée Ann, who is also the daughter of Joe Keller’s former business partner. One day when Ann comes to visit, the first cracks begin to show in the family’s facade of normalcy. With its themes of guilt, debt, betrayal, responsibility, war and capitalism, All My Sons made its debut in 1947 and became Arthur Miller’s first smash hit on Broadway.
