Back to Black
by: Auftrag : Lorey
World Premiere: September 22, 2015
"Death is the simple bit. Any idiot can die," said Heiner Müller. With the working title Back to Black the duo Stefanie Lorey and Björn Auftrag have created a production dedicated to portrayals of dying and death in literature, theatre and film. Art has always provided a means for dealing publicly with issues of mortality, death and mourning, and in Back to Black three members of the ensemble explore this subject based on their own experiences and as representatives of the different approaches taken by pop culture and academia. The piece veers between humour, virtuosity and surprise. Dying on a public stage is their daily business; they survive by faking it. The stage is the best place for this experiment, because only here can you always go back to the beginning, create unaccustomed perspectives and take the fear out of the unknown.
