DNA (DeoxyriboNucleic Acid)
by Dennis Kelly
German translation by John Birke
Adam is dead. It was supposed to be the same old game. A bunch of youths intended to torment and bully him like always – just for kicks. Now they need to cover up their guilt. The group holds together, plants false clues and an innocent person goes to prison. But things are no longer the way they were and not everyone can keep on telling lies...
Together with third-year students from the acting programme at the Berlin University of the Arts, Annette Pullen presents Dennis Kelly's play about a group of frightened and disillusioned teenagers. In his piece, which premiered at the National Theatre in 2007, the native Londoner tells of youths who lack both direction and compassion. Kelly’s play describes power structures and people shaped by the violence, conformism and cowardice in the world around them, in a way which is fast-moving, musical and clever.
