Leonhard Dering was born in 1991 in Tomsk (Siberia) into a family with German roots. He moved to Germany in 1993 and grew up in Coburg. Here he was a student of the concert pianist and Neuhaus pupil Alla Schatz. Leonhard Dering studied in the renowned piano Master Class of Lev Natochenny at the HfMDK University of Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt am Main (Bachelor in piano). In April 2016 he won First Prize in the XVI Concours International de piano Alexandre Scriabine in Paris. As a pianist he has performed all over Germany and Europe, including in France, Spain, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, in the Ukraine and in Russia – in 2015 on a tour of St. Petersburg, Moscow, Tomsk and Irkutsk. He has played at prestigious locations such as the Munich Residence and at the Mas i Mas festival in Barcelona. Recordings of his playing have been broadcast on the German TV channels MDR and SWR and on Deutschlandradio. Leonhard Dering has been inspired, artistically, by his work with Lev Natochenny, Alla Schatz, Eugen Wangler, Helmut Deutsch, Jesper Christensen, Arnulf von Arnim und Daniel Pollack. As a musician, he has also been influenced by singers and chamber music partners with whom he has worked, including Trio Favioe and the Australian concert pianist Michael Leslie. As a pianist and actor, he has collaborated with the director Thom Luz and during the 2016/17 season is also performing at the Staatstheater Mainz.
