"I'm alive and dead, slain slaying"
The Prologue to Democracy series is a confrontation with the creation myths of Western democracy – in essayistic, private miniature dramas – always with a focus on the moment shortly before the upheaval, the revolution, the development that will forever turn everything upside down.
At the beginning of Orestie, the transformation of an anarchic, instinctive society into the most original form of the rule of law is imminent. Only Orest, son of the atrid king Agamemnon, has to avenge his mother Klytaimestra for the murder of his father, so that the goddess Athene can intervene in a conciliatory manner, end the generation-spanning curse and replace the principle of blood revenge with that of democratic referendum and jurisdiction.
In OREMESTRA the characters Clytaimestra and Orest are united in one body – "mother and son in sync" – and from this perspective they question the indispensability of their actions, which ultimately leads to social upheaval.
