Almut Zilcher
Almut Zilcher was born in Graz, Austria, and studied at the Mozarteum, Salzburg’s University of Music and Dramatic Arts. In 1992 she was named ''Actress of the Year'' by influential theatre magazine Theater heute for her role as Miss Julie in Strindberg’s play of the same name (directed by Dimiter Gotscheff). Before becoming a member of the Deutsches Theater ensemble in the 2006/2007 season, she performed at many of Germany’s premiere stages, including the Deutsches Schauspielhaus and the Thalia Theater in Hamburg, Theatre Bochum, Berlin’s Volksbühne and at the Salzburg Festival. Zilcher has worked with directors such as Adolf Dresen, George Tabori, Leander Haußmann, Werner Schroeter, Karin Beier, Jossi Wieler, Karin Henkel, Nicolas Stemann, Michael Thalheimer and Hans Neuenfels. At the Deutsches Theater Almut Zilcher regularly worked with Dimiter Gotscheff, including Aeschylus’ The Persians, Chekhov’s Ward No. 6 and Waterfront Wasteland Medea Material Landscape with Argonauts | Mommsen's Block by Heiner Müller. Together with Samuel Finzi, Dimiter Gotscheff and Wolfram Koch, Almut Zilcher received the 2011 Berlin Theatre Award, handed out by the Preussische Seehandlung Foundation in recognition of "outstanding contributions to German-language theatre". Currently she can be seen in Hunger.
