Born 1965 in Hamburg. After studying German in Hamburg, first dramaturgies at Kampnagel. From 1990 onwards she worked as a dramaturgy assistant and dramaturge at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg, and from 1993 to 2000 at the Staatstheater Stuttgart under the direction of Friedrich Schirmer. Here she worked with directors Martin Kusej and Christoph Loy, among others. From 2000 to 2009 Sonja Anders was dramaturge at the Thalia Theater, since the 2005/06 season in the position of chief dramaturge. She regularly worked with the directors Stephan Kimmig, Martin Kušej, Michael Thalheimer and Nicolas Stemann. From 2009 to 2018 Sonja Anders was chief dramaturge and deputy artistic director at the Deutsches Theater Berlin. She has published numerous publications, taught and was, among other things, a member of the jury for the dramatist prize of the Kulturkreis der deutschen Wirtschaft at the BDI, for the Berlin Literature Prize for the Stiftung Preußische Seehandlung and is currently a member of the Goethe Institute's advisory board for theatre/dance. From season 2019/20 on, Sonja Anders is the artistic director of Schauspiel Hannover.
