Peter Moltzen was born in 1970 in Leipzig. After studying at the city’s University of Music and Theatre "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" he performed at the Chemnitz Playhouse, Theater Senftenberg and Theater Nordhausen. Moltzen then moved to the State Theatre in Kassel where he worked with directors such as Peter Kastenmüller and Armin Petras. From 2001 to 2003 Peter Moltzen was a member of the ensemble at Schauspiel Frankfurt. In 2003 he moved to the Thalia Theater in Hamburg, where he worked with directors like Alize Zandwijk, Stefan Pucher and Stephan Kimmig. Here Moltzen also continued his collaboration with Armin Petras and played the title role in Michael Thalheimer’s staging of Woyzeck (a Salzburg Festival co-production). In 2006 Moltzen switched to the Maxim Gorky Theatre in Berlin before returning to the Thalia in 2008. From 2009 to 2014 Peter Moltzen was a member of the Deutsches Theater ensemble. Here he appeared in: Andreas Kriegenburg’s production of Heart of Darkness (based on Joseph Conrad’s novella); Jette Steckel’s version of Shakespeare’s Othello, Michael Thalheimer’s staging of The Nibelungs by Friedrich Hebbel, The Weavers by Gerhart Hauptmann, Innocence by Dea Loher and Tales from the Vienna Woods by Ödön von Horváth.
