Milan Peschel

Milan Peschel was born in 1968 in Berlin and initially trained as a theatre carpenter at the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin. Until 1991 he worked as a stage technician at the Volksbühne Berlin, before studying acting at the "Ernst Busch" Academy of Dramatic Art in Berlin. Alongside engagements at the Hans-Otto Theater in Potsdam and the Neue Bühne Senftenberg, Peschel has also been a full-time member of the ensemble at the Volksbühne in Berlin since 1997, and acted in many TV and film productions. He has worked with directors such as Frank Castorf, Dimiter Gottscheff, Armin Petras and Jan Bosse. For his leading role in the cinema drama Halt auf freier Strecke (Director: Andreas Dresen) from 2011, he was awarded the Bavarian and German Film Prizes. Milan Peschel worked as a director for various theatres in Berlin and Denmark and directed, among others, Sein oder nicht sein at the Maxim Gorki Theater. His first directorial work at the Deutsches Theater was Juno und der Pfau by Sean O'Casey, which premiered in January 2013. Most recently, Peschel staged Mephisto 2018 at the Schauspielhaus Hannover, Freiheit in Krähwinkel at the Schauspielhaus Bochum and Arsen und Spitzenhäubchen at the Theater Heidelberg. In the 2019/20 season he can be seen on the stage of the Deutsches Theater in Der Hauptmann von Köpenick (director: Jan Bosse) as well as in the production (Life on earth can be sweet) Donna by René Pollesch, which will have its world premiere in December 2019 at the Deutsches Theater.
