Regine Zimmermann
Regine Zimmermann was born in Grünstadt in the Palatinate. She attended the Otto-Falckenberg-Schule in Munich and after graduating was engaged at the Maxim Gorki Theater in Berlin from 1997. Here, among other roles, she played the title role in Effi Briest, based on the novel by Theodor Fontane, Mieze in Berlin Alexanderplatz alongside Ben Becker, and Jenna in Lars Norén’s Dämonen (Demons). In 2000 she was nominated for the Ulrich-Wildgruber Prize. In Patrick Marber’s Hautnah (Closer) she played Alice. Since 2001 Regine Zimmermann has worked regularly with Michael Thalheimer at the Deutsches Theater, where she was a member of the ensemble until 2009. In Emilia Galotti she played the mute and troubled title role, in Goethe’s Faust. A Tragedy Part 1 she played Gretchen and in Faust. A Tragedy Part 2 Sorrow. In Gerhart Hauptmann’s Die Ratten (The Rats) (invited to the Theatertreffen 2008, together with Einar Schleef’s Gertrud, director: Armin Petras), she played the Polish maidservant Pauline Piperkarcka. She has worked on numerous occasions with Nicolas Stemann and Armin Petras. In the 2013/14 season she was a member of the Schaubühne Berlin ensemble. Zimmermann has also had TV and film roles, including in Caroline Link’s Nirgendwo in Afrika (Nowhere in Africa), which won the 2003 Oscar for Best Foreign Film and Gegen Morgen (Towards Morning) (directed by Joachim Schönfeld, 2006). Most recently she appeared as Marlene Dietrich in Erik Schmitt's film Cleo. Regine Zimmermann rejoined the ensemble of the Deutsches Theater Berlin at the start of the 2017/18 season.
