Nina von Mechow

Nina von Mechow, born in 1969 in Gießen, studied stage and costume design at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts, at the Weißensee Academy of Art in Berlin and scenography at the Konrad Wolf Film University Babelsberg. Since 1994 she has worked regularly at the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz, where she assisted Johann Kresnik after an internship with Anna Viebrock and Bert Neumann from 1999 on Frank Castorf’s productions of Dostoevsky’s Demons and Shakespeare’s Richard II in the Prater. From then on, she worked closely as a costume designer with Bert Neumann, and well as with Martin Wuttke, Sebastian Hartmann, Jonathan Meese, Ulf Aminde and Ulrich Rasche. Since 2002 she has collaborated closely with the playwright and director René Pollesch, with whom she has worked as a stage and costume designer at the Volksbühne, the Münchner Kammerspiele, the Ruhrfestspiele Recklinghausen, the Burgtheater Vienna, the Staatsschauspiel Stuttgart and in Warsaw. In 2017 she designed the stage and costumes for Frank Castorf’s last production at the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz – Ein Schwaches Herz (A Faint Heart) based on the short story by Dostoevsky. Besides this, Nina von Mechow made the costumes for Leander Haußmann’s feature film Herr Lehmann, the television series 24 Stunden sind kein Tag, the films Bad Decisions and Niagara by René Pollesch, as well as working on the set of the feature film Das traurige Leben der Gloria S. directed by Ute Schall and Christine Groß. She has also worked at numerous major theatres and opera houses with directors and collectives such as Novoflot, Sebastian Baumgarten, David Marton and Roger Vontobel, Johan Simons, Karin Henkel, Andrea Breth, Jossi Wieler and Sergio Morabito. At the Deutsches Theater Berlin she designed the costumes for Die Affäre Rue de Lourcine in 2016 and was the stage and costume designer for Drei Schwestern (Three Sisters) in 2019, both directed by Karin Henkel.
