Ora, the woman running from the news, is on the road in Israel. She does not want to be available, to be simply absent, in case terrible news comes her way. Because her son Ofer has volunteered for military service in the West Bank. Ora flees to the mountains with her childhood sweetheart Avram, the biological father of her son and a former soldier in the
Yom Kippur War. She tells stories and reminisces in an attempt to keep her son alive through sheer remembering. She describes her two loves, her sons, the war, her anger, despair and happiness.
In A Woman Running from the News, David Grossman has written an almost tender family story that reflects broadly on a country’s inner turmoil and the catastrophe of war for countless generations. After Falling Out of Time and A Horse Walks into a Bar, this is the third Grossman play brought to the stage at the Deutsches Theater.
