Marcel Kohler

Born in 1991 in Mainz. He studied at the University of Performing Arts "Ernst Busch" in Berlin from 2011 to 2015. He worked on many occasions with Christian Grashof. He received a fellowship from the German Academic Scholarship Foundation. During his studies he already had his first roles at the Deutsches Theater in Berlin and Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz. Since 2015, Marcel Kohler has been a member of the Deutsches Theater ensemble. He has collaborated on numerous occasions with Daniela Löffner, Stephan Kimmig, and Dušan David Pařízek. In 2016 he made his debut in Goethe’s Clavigo (director: Stephan Kimmig) at the Salzburg Festival and will be there in 2021 under the direction of Jossi Wieler in Hofmannsthal's The Mine at Falun. Kohler is a founding member of the Neues Künstlertheater and works regularly as a director and stage designer with Corinna Harfouch and others as well as with students of the university "Ernst Busch" and at the National Theatre Weimar. Awards: winner of the international Goethe Institute competition for new theatre texts Lingue in Scena and the Turin Book Fair competition for Costa. "Best Acting Prize" at the third International Festival of Drama Schools in Beijing in 2013; the O. E. Hasse Prize 2014. Alfred Kerr Acting Prize for best performance by a young actor during the Theaterteffen of the Berliner Festspiele 2016. In the 2006 critics’ poll of the magazine Theater heute, Marcel Kohler was voted "Up-and-coming actor of the year". In 2017 he received the Daphne Prize of the Theatre Community of Berlin for his outstanding acting achievements. Currently he can be seen in Zdeněk Adamec, Franziska Linkerhand, Whatever, Hunger. Peer Gynt, The Glass Menagerie, Fathers and Sons as well as Decamerone.
