Bernd Isele

Bernd Isele studied German language and literature, history, art history and media studies, first in Constance, then at the University of Münster, where he worked as a research assistant from 2002 to 2005. Research stays in the eastern Mediterranean, doctorate in 2006. 2004-2004 theatre work in Switzerland: 2004/05 as guest assistant at the Schauspielhaus Zurich, since 2006 at the Lucerne Theatre. He works there as an acting dramaturg with individual excursions into the opera section and, with the Experimentierbühne UG, runs a basement theatre for contemporary plays. In addition to projects in the fields of visual arts, music and dance theatre, he initiates and accompanies co-productions with independent groups and premieres of works by Ewald Palmetshofer, Martina Clavadetscher, Thomas Hürlimann, Gerhard Meier and other authors. From 2012 Bernd Isele will work freelance on several theatre, film and book projects, including an anthology on the author and theatre landscape of Central Switzerland, which will be published in 2016. From 2013 to 2018 he is engaged at the Staatstheater Stuttgart. He works there with Calixto Bieito and in acting continuously with Armin Petras, Christiane Pohle, Christopher Rüping, Stephan Kimmig and Schorsch Kamerun. From 2014 to 2018 he is a lecturer in dramaturgy at the Academy of Performing Arts Baden-Württemberg. Since 2018 Bernd Isele is engaged at the Deutsches Theater. Here he is in charge of world premieres by Ferdinand Schmalz, Moritz Rinke and René Pollesch, among others. As a member of the dramaturgy, he is responsible for the Autorentheatertage.
