Human Rights Award 2022
of the Gerhart and Renate Baum Foundation to the author Katja Petrowskaja
Art as the "daughter of freedom" has a special significance in this epochal turn. With her determination, with her artistic power, the Kyiv author Katya Petrovskaya is a sensitive, thoughtful and forceful voice. Her public word has contributed greatly to the perception of Ukrainian society as an active subject. For her multifaceted commitment, she is honoured with the Human Rights Award of the GERHART AND RENATE BAUM FOUNDATION, endowed with 10,000 €. The laudatory speech will be given by the film actor, dramaturge and author Hanns Zischler. The laureate reads from her works and meets Stefanie Schiffer, managing director of "European Exchange", and the politician and human rights activist Gerhart Baum for an exchange of ideas on the perspective of a self-determined Ukrainian society. With the impressive vocal solo "Djamila Boupacha" by Luigi Nono, the Ukrainian singer Viktoriia Vitrenko sets a special musical accent.
