David Heiligers was born in 1984 in Karlsruhe. He studied theatre studies, modern German literature, psychology and Spanish at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich. During his studies, he worked as adirector and assistant in the municipal theatre, as well as directing and creating his own projects in the independent scene. After his master's degree he worked as an assistant director at the Münchner Kammerspiele for two years and for another year at the Maxim Gorki Theater Berlin. At both theatres he also created his own productions. In a freelance phase he worked for the Theatertreffen and the Stückemarkt of the Berliner Festspiele, as well as an author and director. He then worked as a dramaturge at the Munich Volkstheater, where he collaborated with directors such as Karen Breece, Abdullah Kenan Karaca, Lilja Rupprecht and Christian Stückl. Since 2015 David Heiligers is a daramaturge at the Deutsches Theater Berlin. He works with directors such as Brit Bartkowiak, Jan Bosse, Stephan Kimmig, Anne Lenk, Daniela Löffner, Thom Luz, Ulrich Rasche and Nora Schlocker.
