Balzer and Müller invite
When Balzer & Müller moved from the Volksbühne to the Deutsches Theater half an eternity ago, they couldn't believe their eyes. Why does an artistic director watch a small event like the Popsalon, and do so several times, sometimes even with his wife? Doesn't he have better things to do? Is he curious about the program that runs in his house, even about a pop petitesse? In their careers in the media north and south of the Rhine, Balzer & Müller have mostly been taught that pop basically belongs in the children's room. In the newspaper, according to the tenor of the dominant high arts, this music would be better off in the mixed section on the back page of a federal newspaper than in the feuilleton (for those who can still remember the cultural form of the newspaper and its architecture). The craziness in the DT did not stop at all, because now the chief dramaturge was also constantly there and, climax of the confusion, occasionally gave feedback. An approachable tone, a technique that is fast and relaxed, a bar that knows your drink: is this still theater? We thank Ulrich Khuon and Claus Caesar with a particularly broad and strong pop-criticism round for the farewell of their directorship!
