Clemens Maria Schönborn

Clemens Maria Schönborn was born in Duisburg. He studied directing at the Academy for Film and Television in Potsdam-Babelsberg. His debut feature film Fräulein Phyllis with Sophie Rois in the title role was released in Austrian cinemas in 2004. His second full-length feature film, the comedy Der Letzte macht das Licht aus! premiered at the Max Ophüls Festival and was nominated for the Adolf Grimme Prize. In addition, Clemens Maria Schönborn received the Mercedes Benz scholarship for his directorial work. During his film studies Clemens Maria Schönborn also worked at the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz Berlin. He was an assistant to Christoph Schlingensief and Frank Castorf. Clemens Maria Schönborn directed Medea at the Centraltheater Leipzig, the Lady of the Camellias at the Volksbühne Berlin, Orphans at the Mecklenburg State Theatre and numerous productions with Sophie Rois for the Foundation Schloss Neuhardenberg. His production Sophie Rois fährt gegen die Wand im Deutschen Theater will celebrate its premiere in January 2020 at the Deutsches Theater Berlin.
