Christina Schmitt

Christina Schmitt studied stage design with Hartmut Meyer at the Berlin University of the Arts. As a freelance stage and costume designer, she works closely with the directors Franziska Kronfoth, Julia Lwowski, Sebastian Baumgarten and Georg Schütky, in addition to her artistic work with Lilja Rupprecht. Engagements have taken her to the Zurich Opera House, Schauspiel Stuttgart, Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus, HAU Hebbel am Ufer and the Maxim Gorki Theater in Berlin, among others. Since 2013, Christina Schmitt has regularly furnished works by the Berlin music theater collective HAUEN UND STECHEN. Their most recent collaborative works include Salomé and Notre Carmen at the Théâtre de l'Athénée in Paris and the Sophiensælen in Berlin, as well as Die Verurteilung des Lukullus at the Staatsoper Stuttgart. In 2020, Christina Schmitt took on the costume design for the video work KIM@HENRI by the Berlin jazz collective KIM COLLECTIVE as part of the Jazzfest Berlin. She also works for film; the German premiere of Jesus Egon Christus took place at the Berlinale (Perspektive Deutsches Kino) in 2021. Most recently, she also designed the stage and costumes for Der Steppenwolf at the Deutsches Theater Berlin and Eine Straße in Moskau at the Staatsschauspiel Dresden, as well as the costume design for Luigi Nono's Al gran sole carico d'amore at the Theater Basel.
