Michael Verhovec
Michael Verhovec was born in 1969 in Celle. He is a self-taught musician. After completing school, he became a drummer in the Hanover jazz scene. In 1990 and 1992, he was the prizewinner of the Niedersachsen Jazzpodium. He has collaborated with Lionel Hampton and Buddy de Franco, and has produced CDs with Cunnie Williams, Gunter Hampel, Bass Instinct, Simple Truth, Organeyes and Muriel Zoe. His first work with music for the stage began in 1996 at the Schauspiel Hannover. He has worked as a theatre musician and composer since 2000. He has a particularly long and intensive working relationship with Stephan Kimmig with whom he has worked on a number of productions, including at the Thalia Theater, the Münchener Kammerspiele, the Staatstheater Stuttgart, the Burgtheater in Vienna, the Schauspiel Frankfurt and the Schauspiel Zürich. He composed the music for Stephan Kimmig’s productions Don Carlos, The Lady from the Sea, Vassa Zheleznova, Ödipus Stadt (Oedipus City), and Children of the Sun at the Deutsches Theater. Michael Verhovec lives in Hamburg.
