Voxi Bärenklau

Voxi Bärenklau studied film under Werner Nekes and Helmut Herbst from 1982 to 1989 at the Offenbach University of Art and Design. In 1990, he completed his studies in design with a film major and his graduation film Buchholz bleibt. He was one of the closest artistic members of Christoph Schlingensief’s team from 1987 until Schlingensief’s death and took on his first independent camera work in 1989 for Schlingensief’s first episode of The Germany Trilogy (Deutschlandtrilogie) as well as The Last Hour in the Führerbunker (Die letzte Stunde im Führerbunker). In addition to the medium of film, his work as a lighting designer since 1996 has led him to work in prestigious European theatres and opera houses. Following Bambiland at the Burgtheater Vienna and Atta Bambi Pornoland at the Schauspielhaus Zurich, he worked on Schlingensief’s Parsifal opera at the Festspielhaus in Bayreuth in 2004. Since 2007 Voxi Bärenklau has taught digital film at the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts in the design department and from 2008 to 2010, he was involved as an artistic staff member and cameraman in the founding of the Institute for Moving Image Media at Dortmund’s U under the direction of Adolf Winkelmann.
