Born in East Berlin, Jürgen Kuttner was a member of the East German artists’ association Verband Bildender Künstler der DDR until the fall of the Berlin Wall. In 1990 he helped found the eastern German edition of the taz newspaper. Kuttner subsequently hosted numerous radio shows for German public broadcasters, including Kuttner & Kuttner together with his daughter Sarah, a well-known TV presenter. In addition to his radio work, Jürgen Kuttner is famous for his monthly "video snippets" shows, presented at Berlin’s Volksbühne theatre. He is also involved in other theatre projects, acting as a playwright, a performer and/or a director. With fellow director Tom Kühnel, Kuttner has recently staged three productions at the Deutsches Theater: the Peter Hacks drama Anxieties and Power, Michael Frayn’s Democracy and Capitalista, Baby!, based on Ayn Rand’s novel The Fountainhead.
