Daniel Hengst was born in 1981 in Leipzig and studied media technology at the University of Applied Arts in Leipzig. Besides working as a cameraman, film editor and co-director for various documentary films, he has also worked since 2008 as a video artist and technician for various theatre projects in Leipzig, Dortmund, Frankfurt and Berlin.
In February 2013 he took on the role of director for the first time in the media theatre experiment Der Livecode: Krieg und Frieden im globalen Dorf (The Livecode: War and Peace in the Global Village). In summer 2014, Hengst was awarded the Dr. Otto-Kasten Prize, an award for up-and-coming talent bestowed by the German Stage Association. For Terror, he is working with the Deutsches Theater Berlin for the first time.
