Let Them Eat Chaos Between isolation and departure

by Christopher-Fares Köhler

It is exactly 4:18 a.m., somewhere on a street in London. Seven people lie awake, tormented by worries, memories, or loss. They all live on the same street, but they have never met. Until now. Because a storm is brewing in the distance ...

Let Them Eat Chaos is both a long poem and the second studio album by English poet and spoken word artist Kae Tempest. In it, Tempest unfolds a multi-layered panorama of poetry, spoken word, and social analysis—while also issuing a poetic wake-up call. With unflinching honesty and great empathy, Tempest addresses alienation, social inequality, and the emotional exhaustion of a late modern society. And yet there is still room for hope: for connection, for change, and for a future in which we can see each other again.

Director Sebastian Nübling brings Tempest's long poem and the 13 tracks to the stage as a performative exploration. In the encounters between the seven characters, he searches for those moments when connection becomes possible. The result is a powerful, poetic, and performative examination of the chaos of our present.
