synopsis

  • Emotional roller coaster
  • Self-defense
  • Happiness in life

Cheryl's life is organized. Though it may not be easy for others to understand, it makes perfect sense to her: if you only have one plate and one fork, you don't have to worry about piles of unwashed dishes in the kitchen. If you want to read a book, it's best to do so right in front of the bookshelf, so you can quickly put it back and tidy up. Life can be so practical and efficient when you organize it just for yourself. So it's very inconvenient when Clee, the daughter of Cheryl's boss, suddenly moves into this well-ordered world with a completely different personality. Loud, messy, and completely lacking in manners. Chaos is inevitable, and it's not limited to the interior design—Cheryl's feelings are suddenly thrown into turmoil as well.

Miranda July is a master of subtly restraining everyday, neurotic, and terribly lovable characters, and with her debut novel, she has written a love story beyond all clichés that gets under your skin. Maren Eggert will work with director Sarah Kurze to develop a monologue about a woman whose existence is thrown off course and becomes a wild, tragic, and sometimes euphoric rollercoaster ride. It is a story about resilience and hard-won fulfillment.
