Abak Safaei-Rad, born in Cologne, completed her acting studies at the Hanover University of Music and Theatre in 1999.
This was followed by permanent engagements at Schauspiel Frankfurt and Staatstheater Stuttgart as well as guest engagements at Volksbühne Berlin, Deutsches Theater Berlin, Schauspiel Hannover, Theater Neumarkt Zürich and the Salzburg Festival. She has worked with Armin Petras, Wanda Golonka, Peter Kastenmüller, Simone Blattner, Hans-Werner Krösinger, Martin Laberenz, Sebastian Hartmann, René Pollesch, Schorsch Kamerun, She She Pop, Alexander Eisenach, Stephan Kimmig, Oliver Frjilć, Philipp Stölzl and many more.
Since the age of twelve, she has worked as a narrator in numerous radio plays and radio productions. In 2022, she received the ARD German Radio Play Award for her theatre monologue Pisten.
She has also appeared regularly in film and television for several years. Including at the Berlinale 2012 in a leading role in the film Beziehungsweisen by Calle Overweg, at the Berlinale 2020 in Futur 3 by Faraz Shariat, at the Berlinale 2022 in Rabiye Kurnaz gegen George W. Bush by Andreas Dresen, as a prosecutor in Tatort Mainz and the award-winning Sky series Souls. From 2019 to 2023 she was a member of the Maxim Gorki Theatre ensemble.
Abak Safaei-Rad has been a member of the ensemble at Deutsches Theater Berlin since the 2023/24 season.
