Ach, Mom! (Oh, Mom!)
a project by Nico Sauer

synopsis
It begins in a living room, like in any sitcom. And ends in delirium.
Oh, Mom is a choreographed multicam production for three actors, in which techniques from musical composition are transferred to the vocabulary of acting. Complex narrative patterns arise not through plot, but through rhythmic superimposition, phase shifts, and finely timed physical interactions. Gestures are decoupled from their functions, objects lose their subjects, voices float between lip-sync and real speech. The camera no longer takes on the role of the neutral observer, but emancipates itself—zooming, missing, insisting. What begins as a sitcom ends in the frenzy of a new, grotesque theatrical language.
Oh, Mom! is not a story about family – but a score about its signs. A delirium of rhythms, glances, routines, and breaks. A sitcom that explodes itself in order to build a new model of performative narrative from its ruins.
In his projects, which span musical theater, visual art, and performance, composer, multimedia artist, and director Nico Sauer explores the boundaries of musical composition and theatrical genres. His project proposal GAGS won over the jury of the open call.
