In Funny van Dannen’s songs and lyrics, sense and nonsense, the political and the private, the critical and the everyday are interwoven to the point of fusion. This may explain their depth and accessibility. His songs are often, in the words of the Frankfurter Rundschau, "about people who have backed the wrong horse and then ask themselves whether it was actually a horse at all". Painter, writer and musician Funny van Dannen Scarcely is unrivalled in his fine dissections of German sensitivities. Reason enough for Tom Kühnel and Jürgen Kuttner to put together a musical revue of his work that holds up a mirror to the madness of our times.
